When your heart feels pulled in too many directions
Sometimes we know that Allah is One, yet our emotional world feels anything but settled.
Our hearts become caught around relationships, family expectations, uncertainty, approval, marriage, loneliness, fear or the need to feel chosen.
We may understand tawakkul intellectually, while our body remains anxious.
We may turn towards Allah, yet still struggle with guilt, emotional distance or the feeling that we have to become better before we are allowed to return.
Returning to One is a therapeutic workshop inspired by Surah al Ikhlas.
It offers a space to slow down and gently explore the relationships you hold with Allah, yourself, your body and the people around you.
This is not a day of lectures or pressure to perform your faith correctly. It is an honest, reflective and experiential space where you can arrive as you are.
What is Returning to One?
Returning to One brings together faith-sensitive psychotherapy, embodied reflection, relational exercises and the themes of Surah al Ikhlas.
Throughout the day, we will explore questions such as:
What has my heart been emotionally orbiting around?
Where do I go when I feel unsafe, rejected or uncertain?
Do I lose myself in relationships or feel responsible for everyone around me?
Have I given another person too much power over my worth or emotional security?
What would it mean to return Allah to the centre without denying my genuine human need for love and connection?
How can I become more present with myself rather than abandoning, judging or constantly trying to fix myself?
The workshop is designed to help you understand your patterns without shaming them.
You will be invited to become curious about the ways you learned to seek safety, protect yourself and maintain connection.
The themes we will explore
Allah is One
We will explore what it means to have an emotionally scattered heart.
You will reflect on the people, fears, expectations and uncertainties that may have taken up too much inner space, and consider what returning to one centre could mean for you.
Allah is the Eternal Refuge
We will look gently at attachment patterns and the places we run when we feel emotionally unsafe.
This may include chasing reassurance, withdrawing, overthinking, people pleasing, controlling, performing or becoming emotionally numb.
The intention is not to stop needing people. Human connection matters.
Instead, we will explore how to need others without making them responsible for carrying the entire weight of our emotional world.
The roles we learned to carry
We will reflect on the roles we may have learned within our families and relationships.
You may recognise yourself as the strong one, the responsible one, the peacekeeper, the good daughter, the fixer, the invisible one or the person who carries everyone else.
We will explore how these roles may once have protected connection, but now make it difficult to know and express your own needs.
Nothing compares to Him
We will consider the impossible jobs we sometimes give to other people.
We may expect a partner, parent, child, friend, body or community to prove that we are worthy, safe or lovable.
You will be invited to separate healthy human requests from expectations that no person can completely fulfil.
This workshop may be for you if
You feel anxious or unsettled in relationships.
You become preoccupied when someone withdraws or becomes emotionally unavailable.
You struggle with people pleasing, overthinking or needing reassurance.
You feel responsible for other people’s emotions.
You find it difficult to recognise or express your own needs.
You have lost parts of yourself within family, marriage or community expectations.
You want a closer relationship with Allah but feel guilt, shame, numbness or emotional distance.
You understand spiritual ideas intellectually but struggle to feel them within your body.
You want faith-sensitive therapeutic support without being judged or preached at.
You do not need to be in a perfect place spiritually to attend.
You are welcome whether you currently feel close to Allah, distant from Allah, confused, hopeful, tired or somewhere in between.
What you may leave with
A clearer understanding of your emotional and relational patterns
Greater compassion for the parts of you that seek reassurance, control or protection
More awareness of what your body is communicating
A softer and more honest relationship with yourself
A deeper understanding of Allah as your ultimate refuge
A clearer sense of what belongs with Allah, what belongs with you and what can reasonably be asked of other people
Practical ways to return to presence when you feel emotionally scattered
A simple daily practice for reconnecting with yourself and Allah
The workshop cannot promise a particular emotional or spiritual outcome.
It offers a carefully held space in which closeness, insight and return may become more possible.

You do not need to arrive feeling ready
You do not need to have the right words.
You do not need to feel spiritually strong.
You do not need to understand every relationship pattern you carry.
You only need enough willingness to become curious about where your heart has been and where it may want to return.
